a bad dish

my gf and I went for dinner last night, to a Resto that we’ve been to
many times. the food’s been on something of a downward slump the last
few times, and this was no exception.

my meal was fine; the other was atrocious. the kind you wonder about
the judges criticizing on top chef. could it really be all that bad?

chili crusted seared halibut with blanched snap peas
– sounds great so far… Japanese influence
atop sauteed polenta
– a little odd, Italian addin sounds nice
topped with cucumber guacamole
– WTF? cucumber guac?

two cultures can fuse very easily; the third presents a challenge.
this was an unservable dish.

in the retrospect that comes from composing, I know that I should have
said something along the lines of, “I love you guys, and that’s why I
want to say something about this. you’ve done great things, but this
reached too far.”

something like that.
